Kaviyoor Mahadevar Temple
Pathanamthitta, Kerala

Kaviyoor Mahadevar Temple is one of the important Siva temples in Kerala which is also called Thrikkaviyoor Mahadeva Temple. The temple is famous for the Hanuman Prathishta inside Kshetram is situated on a small hillock, and 21 steps leading to Gopuram. Shatla puranam tells, here Prathishta of Shiva was done by Sri Rama in the presence of Mata Sita, Hanuman, Sugreeva and Vibhishana on his return to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana.

Sri Rama asked Hanuman to bring a Sivalinga from Himalayas. Hanuman went to Himalayas and searched everywhere for a Sivalinga, but as auspicious time was near Rama decided to do the Prathishta using the sand from that place. Hanuman became very sad seeing the prathishta was already done. Shri Rama told Hanuman to do Prathishta of Divyalinga he brought. Hanuman tried his maximum, to remove the Linga, but the land moved up to form small hillock.

So Hanuman prayed to Rama and asked permission to stay near Prathishta done by him. Thus Kaviyoor become Hanuman’s place. Vilwamangalam Swamy did Prathishta here of Hanuman after he felt Hanuman's presence in the temple. Mahadeva here is Thrikkaviyoorappan is made of sand and darbha grass
