Thrikkuratti Mahadeva Kshetram is one of the oldest temples in Kerala. It is believed that the temple wall was built by Bhoota Ghanas. Temple is also among the 108 Shiva Temples in Kerala.

Story of the temple is about King Mandhata, who performed 100 sacrifices for the welfare of his people. One of the yagas was held at the present site of the temple. The king named this place Mandhathapuram, which means the place famous for yagas. Later came to be known as Mannar.

It is believed that Parashurama did Shivalinga Prathista when Mahadeva appeared in Homagni which the King had performed. Sahasra Kalasha Abishekam is very special here. Maha Shivaratri is famous here.
