Azhagiya Manavala Perumal Temple
Trichy, Tamil Nadu
Azhagiya Manavala Perumal Temple is located in Tiruchirappalli District of Tamil Nadu. Temple is one among the 108 Divya Deshams. Mahavishnu is worshipped as Azhagiya Manavalar and Lakshmi Devi as Kamalavalli.
Story says that king Nanda Chola was a great devotee of Ranganathar. The couple were sad as they were childless. He prayed to Ranganathar to bless him with a child. Mahavishnu was very pleased with his bhakthi and thus he found a girl child near a lotus pond, who was Lakshmi Devi herself. Kamalam in Sanskrit means Lotus, as Devi was found from lotus pond she was named Kamalvalli. One day Mahavishnu appeared in the dream of the king and told him that the child is Mahalakshmi and asked the king to send Komalavalli to Srirangam to get married to him.
The king was very happy and arranged for the marriage and Komalavalli, dressed as the bride, vanished as she entered the Garbhagriham of Ranganthar. Kalyana Uthsavam is being celebrated on Panguni Pooram (March-April)
