Thiruvangad Sri Ramaswamy Kshetram
Kannur, Kerala

Thiruvangad Sri Ramaswamy Kshetram is located in Thalassery. Vigraham of Sri Rama holds Shankha, Chakra, and Gadha and lotus. The temple is believed to be saved from destruction caused by Tipu. Kshetram is one among the five Ramasthalam. The other four temples are at Thrinayamkudam (Vaikom), Triprayar, Thiruvilluamala and Kadalur.
Sthala Puranam says that, Prathishta was done by Swetharshi Maharshi. Once, Agasthya Muni was on his way to the River, when he was stopped by two Asuras - Neela and Swetha. Agasthya Muni cursed them. The Asuras understood their mistake and asked for forgiveness. Muni advised them to perform Tapasya at two Shiva Temples. The Temple where Neela performed Tapas is Neeleshwaram. Swetha performed his Tapas at this area where the Temple is now situated. They were later known as Neelarshi and Swetharshi. Swetharshi did Prathista of a Vigraham of Paramashiva and Sree Rama. The Vigraham of Paramashiva was Kshiprakopi so Prathista of another Shivalingam was done to calm down the anger. Some stories say Prathista of Vigraham was done by Parasurama. Vigraham is made out of Krishna Sila. Annual festival is during Vishu (April) for seven days.
