Vallakottai Subramanya Swamy Kshetram

Vallakottai Murugan Temple is located in Kanchipuram District of Tamil Nadu. Vigraham of Muruga is about seven feet tall. Kshetram is mentioned in Thirupugazh. 

Sthala Puranam says that, once there lived an Asura called Vallan, who was troubling the Devas. Devas requested the help of Muruga. Muruga came and fought with Vallan. Thus peace was restored here. Indra,  requested his Brihaspati for a place to worship Murugan. Brihaspati suggested Vallakottai, Indra came to Vallakottai, pierced the earth with his Vajrayudha to create a pond. Thus the temple tank is called as Vajra Theertha. People believe that taking a bath in the pond, and  chanting Om Saravanabhava, one will be relieved from all sorrows. Every Thursday, Vigraham is decorated with a garland made of diamonds. Karthikai and Skanda Shashti is famous in this temple.
