Nimishamba Temple, Srirangapattana

Nimishamba Temple
Srirangapattana, Karnataka

Nimishamba Temple is located at Srirangapattana on the the banks of the Cauvery river in Karnataka. Parvathi Devi is worshipped as Nimishamba Devi here and Paramashiva as Moukthikeshwara.

Story says that Suryavamsha king Muktaraja performed tapasya in this place. He made srichakra on a stone and started performing poojas. This Chakra is kept in front of Nimishamba Devi now.

It is believed that two asuras named Janu and Sumandalas got a wish from Brahma Deva that they could not be killed by any weapons. They started causing great destruction to the area. Paramashiva and other devas decided that only Parvathi Devi could kill the Asuras. Parvathi Devi came here as Nimishamba Devi and destroyed asuras within a minute. It is believed that Devi solves the problem of Bhakthas within a minute, which is why she is called Nimishamba here. Varamahalakshmi pooja and Durgashtami are very famous here.
