Shree Durgaparameshwari Temple, Mulki
Shree Durgaparameshwari Temple
Mulki, Karnataka
Sri Durga Parameshwari Kshetra is situated at Mulki, nearly 30kms from Uduppi. Temple is located on the banks of River Shambavi. Devi is worshipped here as Durga Parameshwari here. This is one of the important Shakti Temples in Dakshina Kannada.
It is believed that a Merchant named Bappa built the temple. Sthala Puranam says that, an asura Darigasura was ruling here and he defeated all Devatas. He worshipped Brahma Deva and got a wish and defeated Mahavishnu too. Durga Parameshwari appeared in the form of Sapta Durgas in front of MahaVishnu and promised to defeat and kill the asura. Devi fought with him 7 days and defeated him. Asura went hiding at Patala loka and was killed by Bhadra-Kali there.
Thus Durgaparameshwari emerged here in the banks of Shambhavi River at Mulki.
