Devanathaswamy Temple
Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu
Devasthanaswamy Temple, Thiruvanthipuram is one among the 108 Divya Deshams. Mahavishnu is Devanatha Perumal and Lakshmi Devi as Hemabhujavalli. Hayagrivar, is worshipped, on the top of a hillock here.
The hill is believed to be a part of Sanjeevi mountain that fell down when Hanuman carried it to Lanka. Thus this hill is also called Oushadhachalam. The temple also holds the credit of being the first temple for Hayagrivar. The temple kulam is Sesha Theertham.
Brahmma Deva had performed tapasya here, hence the name Brammachalam for the place. Story says that, Mahavishnu asked Garuda to fetch water when he felt Thirsty. Because of the delay, Aadishesha dug up a whole in the earth and made a well. This well is there in Temple even today.
