Kottai Mariamman Temple is located in Salem District of Tamil Nadu. Devi is worshipped here as Kottai Mariamman or Periya Mariamman.Temple has a small Garba Griham, to mention that, however rich a person is they should bow down while entering to sannidhi here. 

This is one of the oldest temple in Salem District. Kottai Mariammam temple was inside a fort in the times of Chera kings. Cheras treated Mariamman as their guardian. Later Mariamman vigraham was shifted near the bank of Thirumanimuthu river and with all rituals  Kumbabhishekam was performed.  

Devi is also called Malaimari, Mari means rain. If rain is deficient people prays here for their agricultural yields. Those who suffer from Small Pox are given theertham from temple.
