Neelamegha Perumal Koil, Thanjavur

Neelamegha Perumal Koil
Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu

Neelamegha Perumal Temple is located on the banks of Vennaru at Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu. Temple is one among the 108 Divya Deshams. Mahavishnu is worshipped here as Neelamegha Perumal and Lakshmi Devi as Sengamalavalli.

Among the 108 Divyadesam, this is the only temple where three temples are worshipped as one divyadesam. Sri Neelamaga Perumal, Temple, Sri Narasimha Perumal Temple, Yazhi Nagar and Sri Manikundra Perumal temple, Manikundram are the three temples.

Sthala Puranam says that three asuras Tharagan, Thandagan and Thanjagan disturbed Parasara Maharishi's tapasya. Parashara Maharshi prayed to Paramshiva who send Kali Devi. Devi destroyed 1 asura. Maharshi then prayed to Mahavishnu who came as Narasimhar and destroyed the asuras. Thus Narasimhar stayed in Yazhi Nagar temple.
