Sthala Puranam says that, Anjaneyar was on his way back bringing the Sanjeevani Mountain, to cure Lakshmana who fell unconscious in the battle. Anjaneyar felt very thirsty and could not find any water nearby. He prayed to Murugan Swamy for water.

Subramanya appeared here and pierced the mountain with his Vel and a water came out like a spring. Thus, Hanuman satisfied his thirst. After this incident Murugan swamy is said to have stayed here and this is the present Anuvavi Subramanya Swamy Temple.

Swayambhu Vigraham of Murugan swamy here was washed out because of a flood in 1957. Childless couples prays here to get rid of all doshas.
