Story of Panduranga Vittala and Bhaktha Pundalik
Story of Panduranga Vittala and Bhaktha Pundalik
Once a devotee named Pundalik was traveling to Kashi and reached the Ashram of Kukkut Muni. At night Pundalik heard the voice of some women in the ashram. He came to out to look what was happening and saw that they were Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswathi rivers. Pundalik was surprised to see them. The three women told him that muni Kukkut had served his parents most faithfully and accumulated Punya enough to earn Moksha.
Pundalik never cared his parents. This incident changed him. He understood his mistake and rushed back home and started looking after them. From then onwards the care of his old mother and father came before everything else.
Shri Krishna was moved by the sincere devotion of Pundalik towards his parents & decided to visit Pundalik’s home When Krishna visited Pundalik’s home he was serving food to his old parents. Pundalik saw Krishna at his door but his devotion to parents was even more. He gave Krishna a brick to stand on and asked to wait until his duty was completed. Krishna waited patiently and asked Pundalik saw the Krishna at his door but his devotion to parents was even more.
He gave Krishna a brick to stand on and asked to wait until his duty was completed. Krishna waited patiently and asked Pundalik for a wish when he came back. He asked that Krishna should remain on earth and bless, take care of all his devotees. Krishna agreed to stay there and is known as Vithoba or the prabhu who stands on a brick. This form of the Vithoba is Swayambhu. Hari Vittal
