Mookambika Devi Temple, Kollur

Mookambika Devi Temple
Kollur, Karnataka

Kollur Mookambika Temple is situated on the banks of the river Souparnika. This is 1 among 7 Mukthi Sthala created by Parashurama. Kaumasura, is made dumb & called as Mookasur, was killed here. Devi destroyed him  & thus name Mookambika.

Sthala Puranam says that, Adi Shankaracharya wished to bring Saraswathi Devi in his home land of Kerala & did Tapasya. Pleased by this Devi agreed, & said she would follow Shankara, but with a condition that, he should not turn back. Shankaracharya agreed & proceeded to Kerala

But to test Shankara, Devi deliberately stopped the noise of her anklets when they reached Kollur, where Shankara turned and looked back to check. Devi stopped at that place itself and this is Kollur Mookambika Temple. Mookambika is Adi Shakthi as Linga form worshipped as Maakali, Maha lakshmi & Maha Saraswathi. Lingam is cut with a golden line in the middle, dividing the left side as Tridevis, and the right side Trimurtis.
