Arulmigu Thiyagarajaswamy Temple at Chennai of Tamil Nadu, is one among Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam, where Moovar, Appar, Thirugnanasambandar &Sundarar has sung hyms. Shiva is Adipureeswarar / Thiyagarajar & Parvathi Devi, Vadivudai Amman.

Vadivudai Amman sannidhi is one among 51 Shakti Peethas. Paramashiva is Swayambhu lingam in the form of an Ant hill. Sthala Puranam says that during the time of Maha Pralayam, Paramashiva took the form of a huge fire to make water recede, and stayed here as Swayambu lingam under a Makizha tree.

It is said that this is the first (Adhi in Tamil) Swayambu lingam that appeared in the earth after the Pralayam & thus Shiva is  Adhipureeswarar. It is said that to fight with Madhu and Kaidaba, Mahavishnu worshipped Shiva here, and brought back all the Vedas from them at this place.

There are two sannidhi for Shiva, Sri Adipureeswarar & other for Sri Otreeswarar, two separate sannidhi for Devi Vadivudai Amman & Vattaparai Amman. It is believed that just entering this temple itself will cure one’s illnesses.

Vittala Panduranga and Narahari Sonar Narahari Sonar was a great Shiva Bhakta who lived in Pandharpur. He worshipped Mallikarjuna Shiva temple near Vittal Temple, but never wished to  look at Vithoba's temple even once. Narahari Sonar was a gold Smith who was excellent in his work.  One day a merchant who was childless offered to donate a gold kavacham to Panduranga if he is blessed with a child. Koppudai Amman Temple Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu Koppudai Nayaki Amman Koil is located in Karaikudi. Adi Shankaracharya, visited this temple and has installed Sri Chakra. Vigraham of Devi is made of Panchaloka, (a mixture of 5 metals).  Another uniqueness of Temple is that Utsava Moorthy and Moola Vigraham is the same.
