One amoung the 108 Shiva temples, Taliparambha Rajarajeshwara Kshetram Prathishta is done by Parasurama. This is also a Shakthipeetham, where Sati Devi's head fell.
Sthala Puranam says that once Parashurama going this way felt Shiva'a presence in ruins.
He wanted to know how this negligence happened. So Narada Muni who explained story to
Parashurama. Parvati Devi gave 3 Lingams to Mandhata, Muchakunta and Shathasoman.
Devi adviced each of them to place the Lingam in a place where no creature has died
naturally or none has been cremated. Later after a long search Mandhata found this place
matching and he did Linga Prathishta.
But after long years Linga buried into earth. Later
Muchakunda and then Shathasoman also performed same action here. When Shathasoman
saw Lingam burying here he seeked help of Agasthya Muni. Muni lighting Ghee lamp prayed
to Shiva here and thus Lingam was fixed in ground.
Thus Parashurama with the help of Viswakarma renovated the temple.
Temple hold many rare custom
One among them is the entry of women after Athazha Pooja.
It is believed that after Athazha Pooja, Shiva is accompanied by Parvathi Devi of Cherukunnu
Annapoorneswari. So only after Athazha pooja Women are allowed inside.
